turbo surge question

03 f-250 7.3 have triple dog and exhaust upgrade. stock turbo surges when under heavy load or not towing at all. does it need to be replaced?

if there is no play in your turbo wheel..then this will help

some have said when towing heavy they can still feel a little surge with that wheel..in this case ..keep the stock wheel and get this

if your just looking to get a new turbo..then just ask...surge is common and very bad with a stock turbo...

call to order the wheel...i have heard he was on back order..if thats the case we have other sponsors that sell them and have them on hand..the one i posted was the cheapest...

Surge is common when adding a chip or tuner. It doesn't mean the turbo is bad, but allowing the turbo to surge all the time will lead to failure.

Can someone describe a surge, i dont belive i have a problem with it but i would like to know the signs if i ever do.

boost gauge will bounce around and you hear what sounds like a pressure cooker doing its job

And ron I see you have an early 99 like myself, and you have a 99.5 turbo. Is that one better, and if so, why?

yes it is..i got every thing i needed from Petes_7.3 01 truck when he went to the H2E..i added the WW..im hitting the same boost# but it flows more air..little less smoke and 100 to 150 cooler on the egt's....very littile power gain..i have the 17* pump waiting to go in..but with the damn fuel prices i can afford the gaskets..thought i would this last weekend but the donuts went on the up pipes..got to do that first...

I also have an e99, the late turbo is larger. When mine surges it sounds like high pitched chirpping, it sounds different than when a late stock turbo surges.
