Hi I am installing my Alpine Speakers and a CD player but when I talked to a local audio store they said I would need to Re-Wire the whole speaker line thing... otherwise something would blow. Is this true and if so what kind of project am I looking at to do this? Thanks for your help
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Nov-01 AT 01:49 AM (EST)]What size/model speakers and head unit are you putting in? I myself am going to be installing component door speakers(5 1/4 or 6.5's) and an amp soon. (all Alpine)
I am unsure of what you mean about the wiring, all you need is good wire from the head unit to the speaker. Maybe they mean that your existing wire may be wearing through and could short out.
Hi. Well I got a Koss CD player it was cheap and on ebay so what the hell. and I have 6x9's and 5 1/4 Alpine speakers, brand new last year, I never brought the truck in to the audio store, but over the phone they told me if I did not re wire the speaker wires now it would blow up my speakers/radio. I dont know if they told me this cause Im a girl or what... but I didnt see anything on the forums about this.. Thanks Oh and I have a 160 Watts from the cd player and I believe I have 120 in my speakers....
I think that they are just BS'ing you. Just make sure that the wire is in good condition, of proper size and observe positive and negative when installing.
Don't take it to a installer and let him rip you off!
I think I know what they meant. In some older systems, there is one positve wire going to each speaker and then all the neg speaker wires are connected together. If you had a 4 channel radio in this setup you would have 5 terminals, 4 pos. and one common for all the speakers. Any deck made in the last 10 years is NOT designed for this. The newer decks need a seperate pos and neg for each speaker. So they are correct, if you connect all the commons together on a newer deck you can damage it. I would use a meter to check if all the negs are connected or not. It wouldn't be that hard to just run new wire and might not be a bad idea.
Hi thanks for giving me some ideas.... thats what they may have been talking to. But I think they were trying to get me to bring it in and have them do it for $70 , I dont think so LOL. Ill check the wires when I hook em up, and if I have any problems Ill let ya know what I found. thanks guys!
