Dome Light Question

Dumb question here, noticed the other night that none of the dome lights are working. Is there a switch or something that could have gotten bumped etc.? I didn't find anything in the computer setup (07 Limited) to control it....it's not a big enough deal to go right to the dealer with but wanted to see if there is an easy fix before taking it over in the next few weeks.

Ah - the only dumb question is the one not asked.

One thing with the dome lights... they will not turn on if the dash light dimmer is turned all of the way down, similar to how they turn on if it is turned all of the way up. One way that I keep from burning the battery down when I leave the hatch open when working on a project around the house. This might be the culprit. If not, then it's down to starting to look at fuses, etc...

I am pretty sure that the newer Exps have a relay that turns the dome lights off after a certain amount of time regardless if the door is open or not...its in the owners manual. To prevent dead batteries.

Which is interesting, because twice now my wife has gone to take our Expy after I've been home over the weekend and gotten the dreaded "click-click." Both times were after I had used the vehicle over the weekend for doing chores and left the hatch or a door open. I haven't gotten to spend a lot of time diagnosing it, but I have a feeling I am to blame. I put the truck on a trickle charger overnight last week and we haven't had another issue. I don't think she was driving it enough between starts to fully recharge it. After it was charged, I checked the water and volts, all was good again.

Hmmm. If you are closing the doors it should last a while before starting without draining the battery.

Thats true, I had a similar problem, do you have any accessories, like phone charger, GPS, car stereo...that was the culprit in mine, a week sitting without starting with accessories plugged in = dead battery. I had the same exact problem with my 06 Explorer. I put an optima deep cycle battery, a battery buddy and wired a new outlet strip off of a switched fuse in the fuse panel that is deenergized when the key is off, voila problem solved. (battery buddy disconnects the battery via solenoid when terminal volts drops below 12ish. When you touch the brake pedal, it reconnects the battery, therefore you can always start the truck)

Sorry to resurrect an old thread; I have a ‘14 XL. On this truck it seems the only way to turn on the dome lights is by opening the doors or rolling the dimmer switch. Each individual light can be turned off by pushing on the lens. It would be nice to turn on individual lights to read or look at something without having to turn them all on. Do the better equipped Expeditions (XLT, Limited) have that feature or is there a switch to activate that?
