Finally got my 03 F350 PSD last night and I must add, like lots of folks, I've been watching this forum for a long time and am blown away by all of your knowledge. Outstanding.
My question is; can you leave the front hubs locked all the time? MY bud does, but I don't think thats a good idea. That way he can just shift on the fly, but wont that reduce gas milage and possible allow them to be difficult to unlock.
thanks
If you have ESOF (electronic shift on the fly) it's unnecessary as long as the ESOF system is working.
FWIW, I've never owned a 2wd and I've never left my hubs locked in during summer months. Some do, I don't. It was never that big a deal to me to get out and lock them in when necessary. Sometimes during winter I would leave them locked in for a while, but never for long periods of time (over a week or two).
Yes you can leave them in lock but your front end is now turning with probably less mpg as a result. I am not entirely sure because i keep them in auto. One of the main if not only reason for auto and lock position on the hub is that if you ever lose vacuum to the hub you can always get out and manually lock the hub. If you lock back on threads about hubs on our trucks there is no shortage of good info.Roy
Need to learn to add all required info:
Yep we've both got SOTF, guess I'm old school too. I don't leave them locked either, because I think there is added wear and reduced fuel milage.
