I've got a 2000 Excursion 4x4 with a D50 up front.
I've got this annoying squeak coming from the front
spindle area.
It only happens after it is driven a couple blocks and
I turn the wheels.
I can be stopped, rolling, foot on and off the brakes,
it does not matter.
When I take the weight off it, jack the tire off the ground,
the squeak stops.
It seems very hard to pinpoint where it is coming from.
The Lower Ball joint does have a little play in it,
but the sound does not seem to be coming from it.
More like the spindle area.
Anybody had this problem?
I think I remember seeing something about this before. If I remember correctly it has something to do with the exhaust pipe under the passenger floor area. But don't quote me.
I too have this squeak in the front underside of my X. Mine is a V10 and is really pretty quiet except for this squeak that is about to drive me nuts! I've been under the truck and kicked, shook, beat on and yanked on about everything I can find but I can't duplicate the extremely annoying squeak. It's really not that bad of a squeak, but now that I'm tuned into that noise I can't hardly stand to drive the thing. I'd really love to know if anyone knows where to look for the offending part. Man this squeak is annoying!!
My ball joints did the same type of thing. squeaking real loud when I turned. Sometimes the sound would go away. No sound at all in the air. Other times the sound would be REAL loud. I checked the ball joints, but it turned out that I was used to pulling on car ball joints. The truck joints need some muscle to check them!! ( or a good lever)
The dealer found it was the upper and lower ball joints. Replaced under ford ESP.
