Let me see if I remember this right:
The Ford-o-matic became the Cruise-o-Matic & was deemed some variant of the "-mx" trans line. After the C6 came out, the COM continued on, then morphed into the FMX in '68.
The C6 is one piece, all aluminum. FMX is aluminum bell, cast trans.
