Congrats on the buy man and congrats for being from PA the greatest state I have ever been in. Well a big difference is people say the highboy had a factory lift because it set higher then other similar models. Almost 4 inches higher. Most had divorced transfer cases, narrower frame width meaning the fram rails were closer together. The way the front leaf springs mount it has another cross member type bracket all the way up front for the leaf springs. They were also built with fuel tank behind the seat. 77.5 was the last year they made the highboy
Thanks for the info. I do Have a divorced T-case 34" wide frame but no tank behind the seat. there is a crosspiece in front of leaf springs in front. I am looking for the highest gears possible for this truck.
I probably would nove the tank too. What gear ratio does your truck have and where are you in your restoration. I have a cab and chassis right now and plan to build a flat bed.
I Just purchased a 1977 F-250 for a project truck and have been told it is a highboy. What are the differences between high and low boy?
I don't mean to be mean but there's no such thing as a low boy. there was 2wd, 4wd, and HiBoy (non-official term), F250 4x4 from pre 1973-1977.5. the trucks came with a factory 4 inch lift which made them sit that much higher.
as mike has said the last year for the HiBoy was 1977.5.
Thanks, That is just what i wan't to Know about the highboy. I am glad to know it is not a Ford term but their seems to be a lot of people using it and it is good to Know the facts.
Well my build hasn't made much progress I travel almost constantly for work. So all I have done this far is order parts, put a new clutch in to keep it road worthy, master cylinder, headers exhaust, new power steering pump, shocks, and motor mount and motor mount perches. When I'm on vacation in Sept. I'm going to drive to WV pick up a rust free bed and some other parts for A/C. I also plan on driving to SC to pick up a rust free A/C cab. After I have my new body parts I plan to sand blast strip to bare metal patch any wholes prime then to the body shop. I want to have the lower qauter all sprayed in bed linner n painted before reinstalling dash n all. So thas my plan now how much I will get done in two weeks not sure.
OK I don't think the number of drive shafts or divorced transfers matter the last builds may of been 351 400 with married transfer because they were switching over to this set up.
What is the best way to repair a rusted out frame crosspiece near the rear wheels. Can you buy a new piece or do I just weld in an Angle iron
Kind of a random question in this thread.
You might actually get a better response if you start a new thread.
Anyway, are you asking about a crossmember? These are riveted in, and can be removed. These are easily replaced, and can be bolted in. Angle iron might get you by, but I fear it might not be the cleanest or best way to fix this.
Hey FYI if you are looking for a tank I have the original rear tank and protector that was in a HighBoy frame. It is out of the rear but solid and worked good. I am redoing mine to play with and put a 40 gallon rear tank in it. Let me know
