Drive slugs in a TTB equiped truck?
Does seem like this is a little extreme, and overkill. In the original post, the OP asked why the front end did not engage. While it can pretty much be attributed to a failed auto locking hub, the option of drive slugs is probably a little over the top for this truck.
I dop believe that Cutts original suggestion of Warns, or MM locking hubs would be the far better choice.

Oh, we know it would be overkill, which is why the original responses were the Warn or MM's, just thinking of the cool points of having the drive slugs. And since usually the hub is the weak link, with the drive slugs and the TTB, what not is the weak link??? Oh, say the rest of the front end!

Yeah Karl, I know which direction you guys were going with this. I just wanted to clarify for the op that he really had a few options, and regular old lockouts would probably be a better choice for this truck.
Many of the new guys take all of your suggestions to heart, ( you guys do have much to say, and often can get confusing for the newer wheelers), and i did not want this poor guy to run right out and think that he had to buy slugs.
Cool points aside, lol. some of these wheelers are just not either advanced enough, or hit trails extreme enough to justify such an expense and slight inconvenience of such an upgrade.
I am all for slugs, but disgression tells me that this TTB truck probably is not going to see this type of abuse.
Would look cool though.

I would really like to make this truck as tough as possible but isnt the truck a little big and heavy to do a lot of hard off roading?

Heavy and big? it all depends on what you want to do with it. Obviously of you want to make it as tough as possible, the 1st thing you need to do is swap in a 60 up front and ditch the ttb. From there it it will be pretty stout in that form. If you want to go up from there, them Chromoly shafts and a set of lockers front and rear, upgraded brakes all around, and a front shackle reversal and either rear lift springs or a shackle flip and it will be an almost unstopable beast. It all depends on how far are you willing to go and how deep your pockets are. Back to a DD, a set of Warns or MM premiums and be done with it until you are ready for the next step.

First time in a Strip club! Thats funny! Dont know why it is so funny, either because, I can actually remember my first time, or, that it has been so long, that I may need to return.
Gotta support single mom's somehow! Lol.

Alright back on track, yeah slugs and TTB probably should not be in the same sentance, but all kidding aside, Karl, post #20 was very good advice. If the OP is looking for the best upgrades, you mentioned the main upgrades that would make a very capable rig, and the best option to get the OP up and running again with his current set-up.
I dont think her could go wrong with new manually locking hubs. Should last for many years, provided the shafts themselves survive.

In the words of Elvis:

The minions aren't always troublemakers. We do try to help as much as we can, it when the OP or others post back and repeatedly try to give bad advise or just plain ignore common sense is when we get a little aggressive. Think of us as the Offroad police, here to "Protect and Serve"
