I recently purchased a 76 Hawaiian boat, it has a 460 bb. Tore the motor down and found the heads to be cracked D3VE A2A. Advised not to have repaired, casting is thinner and will crack again. So I went out and bought some newer heads DOVE off of a 77. There is a difference, my old heads have a slot for the rocker to sit in and they bolt in. The newer heads are flat with studs. My question is will these work if I buy the newer rockers? And will my ening perform the same? First ford motor and first time playing mechanic.
Can`t help you with your question but I would suggest that you scroll up a bit and post this on the Big Block forum. You should get plenty of help there.

D0 = 1970
D3 = 1973
Definately check your compression before committing to the D0VE's. Their combustion chamber is around 72-75cc's, whereas the D3VE's are around 92-95cc's. Depending on your pistons, you could be in the 12:1 - 13:1 compression range (hence: Race gas).
About the rocker arms, yes, the D0's use screw-in studs. You will probably need to go aftermarket for a set of rocker arms. I have D0VE heads on my 466 and am using CompCams Magnum roller-tip rockers.
I'm no valvetrain guru...so don't take my word as fact.
