Check engine light causes
Received a check engine light on 2008 6.8L V-10 with 5 spd-auto in a F53 (motorhome chassis). I thought that a check engine light dealt primarily with emissions control devices and figured it was a sensor that went bad. The dealer troubleshooting indicated that a wiring hareness going to on near the transmission is bad and needs to be replaced. Does this sound right? What could this be? Wiring to the VSS? Something in the transmission? Your comments or thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, it could be a sensor, or wiring, or the VSS, or something in the transmission. There must be close to 100 different things that can go wrong and turn on the check engine light. Most of those things are connected to the PCM with wires, and if a wire breaks or shorts to something else that can turn on the check engine light.

Didn't get the codes from the dealer yet. They're replacing part of the wiring harness going to the transmission under warranty. I'll have to wait and get the shop ticket. I post when I get more information. Thanks for the help.
