I have had a superchips blue chip, Edge new evolution, superchips microtuner and I am running a Sniper Special Forces tune now. Sniper is actual cheap considering you get to tune two gas fords for the price of the software and downloader, but it's more intricate than the canned tuners.
I'm running the edge evolution on my 5.4L. I checked with Edge directly about it because it says for the f-150 5.4L. The response from the tech guy was that it should work with maybe a problem here or there. I said problem, he said yea, it might not read a code exactly right so you might be off some where. If its doing it I am not looking at the right display because everything is right. The only thing I can think of is that when doing the custom programming it reads the stock gears at 3.50s not 3.73s. I have been too lazy to do the spin the tire thing or open the diffs and count the teeth. I really hope they are not 3.50s.
It shouldn't be 3.50, I am pretty sure 3.73 was the highest gear offered.
The calibrations are probably slightly different between the f150 and 250, but only so much that little things like that are off. However, the gears being off is going to affect the way the trans shifts, probably earlier than it should. Mine went fine, but I only used it for a couple of hours.
That is the thing, it shifts fine, and I have adjusted the shift points so they stay out of the high rpm range for normal driving. So I think that is the only code issue and nobody feels its an issue. I might see if my buddy can plug in and see what gears are showing on the computer.
i have the superchips microtuner on mine and like it, considering the deal i got on it. on both websites i'm on (well, looking like just this one nowadays..) guys seem to like the edge as well. custom tuners will always be your best bet, but you'll pay more for them.
i run the performance setting on mine, which you're supposed to run premium; i've been running midgrade for over a year now with no foreseeable problems. i detuned it the other day and good lord..... you dont realize the driveability you gain until you take the tune back out. i'm getting 12mpg'ish on 35's and 4.10 gears with this tune in the summer.
