I suppose I would be a lot more upset if I was actually a paid supporter of the site.

I guess I should read the notices at the top of the board before b*tchin'. Oh well, it may be frustrating but the board is still worth every penny I have paid for it in the last ten years. (my tag says I joined in 2001 but I joined the site before that when it was a digested newsletter. Something happened in 2001 and I had to rejoin)

I have also noticed that the server is really slow in the mornings and gets better later. But like others, it is messing with my coffee/FTE update time.

Chill out, man!
The post you refer to is concerned with the slow speed, not the absolute loss of the site every morning for more than a week. Slow speed and downtime are not the same thing. The slow problem has been ongoing for some time.

I was strongly considering becoming a paid supporter but with this situation afoot I have definite reservations. If they get their ducks in a row I will have to wait and see if they stay afloat for a while before I spend the cash.

You've....GOT....to.....be....kidding!!

$20 for a year...you're probably on every day, as most are it seems, but lets say 5 days a week. That's 260 times a year...that's almost 8 cents every time you are on. Now, if you're on 4 times a day, that's 2 cents each time. So it's been down only in the morning? So that's a dime, if it's down for a week. Oh yeah, a dime from the support you DON'T give them. So it hasn't cost you a penny. But then again, neither has ANYTHING you've gained from this site, be it camaraderie, knowledge, or just plain fun.

I don't understand it...I just don't!

It's STILL the best money I've spent on my truck...

BTW, Dave, just went to your site that's in the signature...none of the links work. Well, the pdf at quantum tried to, but this is what I got...

Seems like everyone has trouble sometimes...

Where exactly will you find all the resources FTE has?

And it's free...no charge to join, no member is paid a cent to help other members.

Becoming a supporter helps offset the costs, it's a roaring bargain for 20 bucks.

Twenty Bucks?

When I first didn't join it was only Five Bucks.

Thats some pretty steep inflation.

At $20.00, it IS cheap. $1.67 a month...two less beers a month, or 3 soda pops. 40% of ONE gallon of gas a month.

Just different philosophies. I pay my way, whenever, wherever, even when I can't afford it. I've gotten WAY more than my $20.00 out of the site. Ten times over. So I feel obligated, but more so, even honored. I think the only reason NOT to contribute, to keep the site running, is if I DON'T get the benefit. And if I don't get the benefit, I'm gone - no sense wasting my time. And I have one site that I did that with. I was one of the very first members, at one time moderated over 50% of the forums, almost a full time job! When they charged, I quit - 6 years ago, and I've been back three times.

Hopefully, that will help you understand, why I don't understand...

Hopefully, that will help you understand, why I don't understand...but more so, I really get irate, when I see non-supporters, complaining about slowdowns and stoppages...that, to me, is looking a gift-horse in the mouth.
