Does anyone know how to solve this problem. My 99 250 has the CD/Cassette radio in it. The display has been going out on it over the last two weeks. Only half of it though, the buttons will stay lit up but the top portion were it displays time, track, station, etc. will sometimes display and sometimes will not. All fuses check out ok, and the Radio appears to be grounded correctly. Any thoughts?
I also have a '99 and am having the same exact problem. I searched and found a few other threads dealing with this problem, but the "fixes" that were suggested didn't work for me. Apparently this has happened to more than a few of us. Anyone out there with a fix besides a new HU?
What were some of the possible fixes to try? It is almost like there is a short somewhere in it. I took the ground off, sanded it down to bare metal and re-grounded it. That did not seem to work. If my truck sits for a few days the display starts to work again, then eventually goes out within the next two restarts. weird!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Mar-02 AT 06:53 PM (EST)]I copied this from other threads:
"The board in the unit (behind display board) has a heat shield over it. Remove the board and look under it and see if the shield solder pionts are burnt and bleeding onto other connections. If so, clean them off with a stiff brush and wipe all so they are not shorting out anymore. It fixed my display problem ASAP"
Also, there is a huge thread where I believe the only two solutions anyone had was either pay to get it repaired at about $175 or get a new unit, stock or aftermarket.
Of course I am about 2,000 miles past the 3/36k warranty, and the extended warranty won't cover the radio if I recall correctly.
