Overheating, Ideas?

I took the truck on a 685 mile trip up to Conneticut and Back today not towing anything, running empty. I am having a overheating problem, on any heavy acceleration, hills and anything over about 65. I have bypassed the heater core for the summer, new thermostat 2 months ago, new fan, and new fan clutch last week, still doing the same thing. Any ideas on whats next? Radiator? Water Pump? Head Gasket(s)? I do way too much traveling, I need to get this cured before something bad happens! Thanks

Water pump dying. Overheating while going uphill is a classic sign for the Powerstroke water pump.

Might make sure of the simple things like anything blocking the radiator from cooling off. Just trying to think cheap first.

Pretty much. I've driven two PSD's in the past that both overheated in the exact same way. In both cases, the water pump impeller was gone.

Before you spent the $$, have you checked to see if the new Thermostat is opening all the way. Is it the stock one?

Peer through the grille to see if an insane amount of stuff is blocking the AC condenser. It's cheaper to do than buying a new water pump. If air can't get to the radiator, it won't cool water!

That was my problem last year when mine ran hot pulling our 5er.

No I don't take the truck 4 wheeling, There is nothing on the A/C condensor. Changed out the water pump, filled up w/ Prestone extended life, appears to be good now. Thanks for the help!!
