Okay, so I listen to too much late-night talk radio, BUT......
I just got this wonderful truck and have discovered that while the FM reception is great, teh AM reception is **** POOR. Day or night, I can't get anything but teh 50K watt blowtorch in my hometown.
In every other car I have and on my trusty old Radio Shack beach radio, i get the powerful nationwide 50K statoins all night long on skip.. Not this radio......
Is is a noise problem in the truck? Is it a ****-poor AM radio or a bad antenna set-up.
Should I go the filter route or get another radio with a more powerful receiver?
Again, the FM is great, so I know the antenna is hooked up.
I saw another attempt of a thread with the same topic 2 yrs ago that just died without an answer. Can anyone who has successfully dealt with this problem offer some advise?
More than likely its a poor antenna outfit along with the noise of the truck... in ham radio those bands are hf or high frequency and they need a large antenna Meaning long which is usually done by coilling the antenna wire to shrink it to a useable size. thats a lot of wire to use. I got no idea on how to fix it other than a preamp for the am stations.

Yeah i'm not to sure of where or what they are using for an am antenna but the am radio "Channels" are High Frequency and directional. Meaning that for optimal use they need a lare directional antenna (one that points to the source) and the stock antenna that we see on our hoods is a very poor am antenna. But great for the FM stuff which is where we are most of the time. Thats all i really know becasue i am a HAM radio operator and that is pretty general information for a HAM. the higher in frequency the bigger and longer the antenna for better reception! try radio shack for a pre amp. that will increase the signal strength for better reception.
