As some of you may have read in another thread of mine about the shabby tint job i got from a local business(If your in my area and need to getta tint job, pm me for where to and not to go), I'm looking to pull the tint off the backglass this weekend since I dont have much to do. Anybody got any good tricks for doing it? Like I said I dont have much to do so I'm gonna do it myself so I can get it retinted by the place I took it to to have the side Ext cab windows done. These people did a EXCELLENT job. Funny thing about it, one of the guys from the first place came in while I was getting the sideglasses done looking for a job! Can you believe that!
When I pulled tint off, to get the glue off after being on for awhile I ended up using clay bar to get the glue off. Just like you would use it on paint but on the windows. Takes awhile but works perfect.
Use a combination of a razor knife and just peeling to get it off. The clay bar sounds like a great idea. I can tell you from experience windex and degreasers don't work getting all the old glue off.
Maybe yours is new enough you won't have those issues. Every time I thought I had mine clean and I'd roll the window down a little, it would leave a line where the felts touched the glass. I know that's not an issue on the back, but I imagine the residue would pick up dirt quicker.
The best thing I found is spray straight ammonia 6.00/gallon at local markets on the tint, let it set about 10 minutes, tint and glue will roll right off. Be careful not to breathe too much of it though. Thats the way I removed the tint from my 99 grand prix gt, even the rear defroster window, cause you can't scrape those.
I used to do window tinting for a side job at home. I would pull the old tint of dry and then spray the glue down with water(lots oe water). Get You a razor blade scrapper or a pace of single edge blades and scrape the window. Glue will roll right off. Keep it wet the whole time You are doing it. After all glue is off ,wipe down with windex.
