slight "thunk" coming to stop and

when I begin to accelerate.. I talked with STROKIN'IT7.3 a few weeks ago when we met but forgot exactly what he told me..

When I come to a dead stop I hear a slight thunk, and when I hit the gas I hear it again, like something in the drive train is loose or something..

thoughts? my old mind can't remember what I was explained

Possibly your carrier bearing is worn out, or a bad U-joint. Maybe even sway bar end links. I'm betting it's one of those three! None of the fixes for those is "crazy" expensive

The cheapest thing to do is open up the rubber boot just aft of the carrier bearing, drop the rear part of the driveshaft, and grease the splines inside the boot, as that may be what you feel. It's pretty common, especially at those miles. It should take you half an hour.

There's special aquamarine-colored grease that Ford sells in a 3-ounce tube to do it. It's called XG-8, and every good Ford counterman knows about it.

The tube should be good for about five or six lubes, and you may need to do it every year or so, depending on your driving habits.

Use a small brush to apply it to the splines. Be sure to not over-do it, just a nice coating.

Here's the TSB:

that would be this eh? Slip joint regreasing

only concern with that link you posted is that it states that only when accelerating from a stop, no mention of hearing it when I come to a stop as well.... same thing? cause that definatly fits the acceleration part for sure

XG-8 lube, that stuff from ford only? or would local auto parts stores carry it as well?

The Ford-recommended grease is only available from them. Go figure!

But it's not all that pricey, and it sure did the job for me!

I think this is more common to ball joints going out. The drive line regreasing is more common with a thunk from take off. Check both of those points and you'll probably find the source of the noise.

HA mine did that for about three days. Then it really popped and I got out to see what happened and the metal backing on the brake pad was sticking out the top of the brake assembly. By the time I got home I needed a new caliper rotor and pads.
