Post deck shuts off?

Hi all,

I put a Panasonic CD Player in my 78. Sounds good and worked good till I took a long trip (3 hrs). It just stoped playing. The songs were still going , display worked but no sound. I popped out the CD and it was pretty warm. The deck itself was hot, too hot to touch in places. Worked fine the next day. Any Ideas?

from what you describe you have a heat problem. Were you playing it really loud, or running big speakers on the head unit? If not, maybe it's a problem with the radio. I would take it out and see if there's a way to increase the air space/flow around the unit to help cool it. Maybe tie-rap the wires together so they don't take up as much space etc....

are you running high watt speakers straight off the deck? i had a similar problem with a pioneer unit i put in a volvo (really tight fit) and i increased the air flow around the deck and changed my speakers to lower wattages off the deck and i never had the problem again.

just my two cents,
nick.
