I am looking at a 2008 F250 King Ranch at a dealer near my house. As I am currently abroad, I am unable to go and view this vehicle myself.
The Window Sticker doesn't show the NAV or Audiophile system as an option, just the "premium sound" as a standard feature.
I would have figured all King Ranches had the Audiophile system, or at least the 6 disk changer.
How much of a difference does the Audiophile system make? I wanted a KR with Nav, but this truck has every other option I wanted and is near my home. I figure I can add a Premium Stereo/Nav, but I don't know how much of a difference the other parts would have made.
it all depends on how the dealer ordered the truck . some will order it with the NAV or the high end radio are just the Premiun radio. Audiophile radio has the sub woofer behind the seat for bass and i think it gives you two more speakers in the cab. My 08 KR has has 8 speakers and the sub behind the seat. total of 9

The window sticker should say "audiophile 6CD/MP3" or something like that not "premium" if I remember right. The Audiophile system is night and day compared to the non-audiophile system; definitely worth it IMO. It's 8 speakers + a sub vs 4 speakers in the non-audiophile system.
Also, from what I have seen and have been told, you can not order/have a truck from Ford with the OEM navigation system WITHOUT the audiophile system/package. Of course, if you go aftermarket, you can have/do w/e you want.
If you're going to spend 60k on a truck get the one with the upgraded sound. Swapping in navigation is easy and probably gives better results but putting tweeters into a vehicle without them and making it look clean will be a challenge. So if it turns out this truck doesnt have the 9 speakers hold out and get exactly what you want. I made the mistake of buying used and not getting what i wanted now i drool at 08s every day.
Basically I am repeating everything that has already been said. The audiophile is only $200 more than a standard 6 CD changer and it is WELL WORTH IT. I "thought" the standard 6 CD had 4 speakers only. Audiophile adds the subwoofer for awesome bass and then 4 really small speakers for really crisp treble. Its cool to hear different tones from different speakers rather than a standard speaker trying to account for all the sounds. Only problem now is that I may go deaf because all I want to do is crank it up!!
Bought a truck, it has Audiophile, but no Nav. Now I want to add. How difficult and what is required to install a factory nav? There are a few on E-bay.
GPS antenna obviously, programed for vehicle (steering wheel controls) and DVD mapping software. Am I missing anything?
Would my money be better spent on an aftermarket unit (Panasonic, Pioneer, etc)?
personal opinion - I didnt opt for the factory nav because I dont need it on a daily bases. Bought a $300 Garmin with the large screen and it works just fine on the few occassions I need one. If I needed a nav system fairly often it might be nice having it built in but I couldnt justify the cost for the amount of use it would get. Some people even buy a Garmin type of nav and then hard wire it to the upfitter switches rather than using the cigarette lighter plug.
The class I took talked abit about real audiophile systems. The consensus he gave us was you want mids and highs up front only and then subs anywhere. All of the speakers tuned to produce a perfect pink noise at the drivers listening position.
It's not as easy as it sounds, but very cool to learn about and reproduce. So it's up to you if you want to believe that mechanical engineers will build an non or semi tunable sound system that will perfectly reproduce the music for your primary listening location. The premium speakers are pretty decent, I do want to upgrade to 6.5" components eventually though.
You need to have the Audiophile for the sound, but mine is without the NAV.
I have a Garmin GPS separate, that way I got to choose the model that had the features that I wanted. I can move it from one vehicle to another if I want.
Also, I figured that the built-in NAV would just be an enticement for someone to breakin and steal it.
