hey just wondering if there is a trick to putting in my surpentine belt. it seems like it should go easy but just wondering if there is any tricks to make it go faster
1/2 " ratchet will fit right in your tensioner. Pull it back tight ( it is helpful if you have a 2nd person) slip the old one off and the nw one on. Make sure the belt goes in the groves as you let the tensioner go bagk tight. Takes about 2 min.total job time.
If you have the one that goes through the belt then yes you have to remove the upper hose, but since your taking the hose off anyway replace it with one that is for a dual alt version (I beleive some books call it the ambulance or tow truck package) it goes around the outside and the alt bracket already has the place for it to rest. I did it with mine when I replaced the belt now no more worries if I have to replace the belt again.
Aw-man. Wish i knew that. I will run out tomorrow and see if napa can get me one. I reused my existing hose. Didn't feel comfortable on how the hose felt putting it back on last night. But needed the truck today. Thanks for the info
I just ponied up the $35 bucks for a Goodyear Gatorback yesterday. My belt is fine, but I realized I didn't replace my spare on the last change, and I'm headed outta town towing the boat this weekend. One note on the upper radiator hose that is in the way.......my last one that I had, was so close to the belt that it actually got GOUGED by it a little bit. I bought a napa hose, and the angle was muuuuuch better, and was a good 2 inches away from the serpentine belt. On my next replacement I'll get the ambulance hose, which already has a bracket on all of our motors setup. I just wasn't aware of that until it was already replaced!
I flushed my system and bought the hose that goes around the belt for the ease of changing the belt on the road side. course now that i have done that I will probably never need to do it on the road side. (knock on wood)
