Hey Guys,
Whats invovled in the short bed conversion. My Future wife and i love the truck i have but both of us desire it to be a short bed. how much is invovled in making it a short bed i know i have to cut a measurment off the frame and get a short bed. but is there anything else i am missing.
thanks
i know but its my grandpas truck and plus i already have a short bed parts truck so what do i need to do. and i know alot of times its easier to buy what you want but for some of us poor folks we gotta make a truck the way we want.
I don't see why this is so difficult. Getting it aligned properly when you go to weld the frame back together is the hardest part, and that just means you need to do a lot of measuring before you crank up the MIG.
The wheelbase between a longbed and shortbed are different also, don't think it's as easy as just cutting the frame.
Now I don't get that statement at all. The wheelbase is the measurement between the centerline of the front wheel and back wheel. This is what you are going to use to tell how much frame to cut out.
You are gonna need to shorten wiring harnesses and fuel lines, as well. Also if it has dual tanks the LWB front tank is gonna be too big.
I'd suggest transferring everything over to the parts truck, the one that has a factory short box frame.
If you have to ask how to do it, "how to shorten the frame", I'd have to say you're probably better off going that route.
Lots of wrenching but you'd end up with a true, safe ride in the end. That is if the parts truck has never been hit hard making it a "parts" truck. But you didn't elaborate on the parts truck's condition nor your welding abilities.
well then, just use the shorty frame and swap everything
if it was a f250 or 350 i wouldnt be so leery of a cut because theres more metal
but a 150 and a daily driver, u better do it right or gramps truck is junk or gets u hurt
