a friend and i are toying with making a sand toy out of a toyota celica gt. looking at swaping the rear end, axle and all, just hung up on motor ideas. looking for suggestions for a common v-8, smaller size, and carbureted so we can keep it simple. a 302 keeps coming to mind, but im sure there are others out there. so lets hear what sounds good. oh by the way it will also be mated to a stickshift tranny.
A Nissan e16 (pre e16i) from Sentra/ pulsar might do the job as long as the car remains light & geared well. Or the 4AGE toyo engine is coveted by a LOT of gearheads around here. I don't really now anything about sand buggies, but they used to run them with VW pancakes, so the above ought to be pretty sweet. That being said, how about a turbo Ecotec 2.4? Should be VERY light and power limit in street rod 5.7L territory with minor mods. I was thinking the light weight over the front (FWD or RWD) would help the car as a 350 rwd...
