I want to change my cheap looking gray grill to black so I can paint the bumper and get the smoked Harley 05 headlights for it. Is it easier/cheaper to paint what I have or buy new? Mine is in great condition, nothing wrong with it at all but I've heard painting plastic can be a real pain.
It is a bit of a pain, you will need adhesion promoter, primer, paint, and a flex additive for painting plastic.....But I would do it just to say that I did it!
I've just used regular spray paint on these grilles before. I use Duplicolor Cast Coat Iron to simulate the original color, it's pretty close. I've never had any problems with chipping. You don't have to worry about adhesion to the plastic, as it is already painted. It is hard plastic as well, so it doesn't flex and subject it to cracking or flaking like a flexible bumper would.
