Bent Intake Manifold

Prolly a stupid question but i'll ask anyway, is anyone elses intakes bent? i'm pretty sure i bent mine when i pulled the motor cause stupid me wrapped the chain around the #6 runner, only place i saw to hook it.it looks bent up on the back now and i took the one off my parts motor and it looks the same way but it looks uniformly bent on both sides. im gueesing who ever pulled that motor did the same thing or they are supposed to be like that (doubt it).they were both still bolted up fine and the exhaust manifold was perfect. thanks in advance.

My stock manifold is sitting out in the garage; it's perfectly straight as far as I can tell. I'd have a hard time believing that what you described would bend it, though. I think it'd be more likely to crack under that kind of pressure. I know you figured this out already, but wrapping it around the runner like that is a really bad idea. The manifolds on these motors don't bolt to the block like a V8 does. They're clamped to the side and held on with thick washers. You're much better off removing a bolt on each end and replacing it with a longer grade 8 bolt slipped through a chain link, with large washers on the end to keep the chain against the block. Then do something similar on the other side. The 6 is such a long motor that it's best to chain it in 4 points - that's my opinion. But just chaining the intake runner like that is likely to break an ear off the manifold which could make the motor let go.

The intake is angled so that the carb sits level even though the motor points down in the rear, so no, you didn't bend it- the bolts would have broken or at least slipped long before it bent.
I lift from the second bolt back from the carb, and the coil mount hole on the head with good results, or if If pulling with a transmission the left upper bell housing bolt and the intake bolt directly next to the carb. Use a bolt long enough to fit your chain but still short enough to tighten (ie- use the right bolt), and with a short chain it will lift nice and level.
