I was doing a little maint. on the stroker today and noticed a knocking noise from the passenger side of the engine. This is the first time I have ever heard it. I know that the 7.3 is loud and noisy but this don't sound like it normally does. It almost sounds like a lifter or something. The truck has 193,000 miles on it. I am new to the mechanics of the diesel engine and haven't torn into one before, so I am comparing the noise to a gas motor. I don't want to sound dumb but was wondering if it could be a lifter, fuel injector, or ?. If I take it to a good reputable shop should they be able to diagnose the sound or is it a shot in the dark. If it is a lifter is it hard to replace? Is there any tests that I can run to help or any suggestions on how to go about and get it checked out?
Thank You all for your time and any help you can give.
