I just got my truck back from Ford this week after having the headgaskets and EGR cooler replaced. Ford took a few weeks to decide if they were going to cover the service due to the fact that I have a BANKS kit installed. After calling out a technition they ultimatley agreed to replace everything under warranty ( 2004 6.0 with 49,000 miles). After getting the truck home I looked under the hood and noticed that the Banks kit was unplugged and rolled up in the corner under the hood. My question is: Is it routine to unplug the BANKS and put the motor back to stock for this type of service? I assume they want to see how the new gaskets and EGR cooler perform at stock, and I dont have a problem with that at all. OR...........is this a subtle hint to take this out in case of any future warranty work. Thanks

I'm sure they wanted to do the test drive / diagnostics without it installed. Also, they may have updated your programming to the latest flash and it would have to be unplugged for that.
Wow, consider yourself lucky that they covered it. Particularly since they brought a Ford rep out to look at it. Usually if you get warranty work at all it will be under the cloak of darkness when a tuner is present.
As far as them leaving it disconnected, I think all of your ideas are probably true. It's a good idea to get those head gaskets seated well before cranking up the power. Give it 1,000 miles. During that time you will learn whether all the stock systems are working properly, without any confusing Banks issues. Make sure it is all perfect before you plug it back in. They also are sending a message that the Banks system is NOT endorsed or encouraged or even tolerated.
Thats what I figured. The service rep called me and said the Tech "must have been in a good mood". I took the advise of the board and mentioned putting in head studs but the service rep blew me off and said that eveything installed will be updated parts. I even tried to sneak in when the cab was off so I could talk to the guy doing the work but he was gone and I didn't want to push the issue (my only regret). I'm ok with the Banks disconnected since I only pull around 5000 lbs (boat and trailer), It was installed before I bought the truck.
I just had a turbo replaced under warranty and the dealer had to get pre-approval from Ford to do the work and then approval of the work performed before the dealer could release the truck to me. And I have no mods! Consider yourself lucky and go on your merry way.
I don't think I've expressed being anything but merry!!. I am very happy about getting this stuff done under warranty, would have loved to grease the palm of the mechanic and got those studs put in, but I'm pleased. just wanted some opinions of the disconnected BANKS. Thanks
