CEL Light/Scan tool Question
Will a scan tool at advance/Auto Zone still be able to get me the fault code that triggered my CEL light despite me resetting the light by removing the POS battery terminal? Every once in a while when I am towing my camper, I get a CEL light. The truck doesn't miss a beat and runs well despite the light. It happens once in ten trips...I really would like to know what it is. Does the ECU store the code regardless of whether or not the CEL light is on?

No, if the battery is disconnected to dump memory and clear the code, then it is gone from memory until the ECU completes the relearn process and sets the code again when it detects the fault. Sometimes there is a pending code set before the CEL actually comes on as the ECU has a routine that it runs and some CEL codes run repetitive test with identical results before the CEL is turned on for that code. Wait until it comes on again, because it certainly will, then get it read. Post the code here when you get it and you will get help to solve the problem. Good luck!
