Remote Start/Alarm issues

I went out to my 2001 F-150 4.6L the other day and had a dead battery. After getting a jump from a buddy the remote start and alarm doesn't work. Does anyone know how to reset it? I tried pushing the button under the dash but obviously there is more to it than that. Any help you guys might have is appreciated. BTW it is the factory gold alarm/remote start but it was installed later at the dealer.

I have the same set-up, which I installed myself. The first thing to check is that the remote battery is good and that the truck recognizes it. Does the remote with "start" button still lock/unlock the doors? If you have the original remotes, they will not set the alarm, although they will still open and close the locks.

Also, the system has a bunch of fuses. Depending on how the dealer installed it; they may be difficult to access but they should be in proximity of the "black box", which is probably under the dash around the steering column. There is also a start-up programming procedure for the system and the remotes which may have to be redone.

Thanks for the info. The batteries in the remote are good the door locks still open and close, it's just the starter and alarm functions don't work any more and the red light on the dash is constantly blinking (drives me nuts at night). Any Idea were I can find the programing procedure online?

If the truck recognizes the same remote for locking/unlocking, then it will recognize it for starting. If your theft light is blinking, then your passkey override is not working properly. That is a separate small "black box" wired to a coil which is placed in the steering column shroud around the key recepticle. I don't know if that might be affected by reprogramming, but I guess it would be worth trying. I would suggest you try a search for instructions; don't know if I can locate mine.

For what it's worth, I have had to replace the passkey override on mine; maybe it's a weak point. I think it cost about $45; probably more by now...and my dealer gives me a discount.

PS: Does the theft light blink if you have not used the remote start, but have just started with the key? Because that would indicate something else, as the system does not change any of the original functions if the new functions are not used.

That light rapidly blinks all the time now. It used to blink slowly when the truck was off and not at all when started. Noww it's always blinking.
