The 94 is a non-turbo 7.3 and the 94.5 is a turbocharged 7.3. And i believe that the 94 was an IDI and the 94.5 is a DI. Im sure that there are other differences but those are the most apparent.

You could get an IDI turbo in 94. The big change was the change to the Powerstroke in 94.5. The Powerstroke is all electronic and looks a lot different under the hood than the IDI motor.

94 7.3 is not direct injection It could be turbo or it may not be turbo they are a good motor but the powerstroke is better IMO

Thanks for the reply.

I'm new at this so I don't understand IDI vs DI and the advantages or disadvantages of each.

Rather than bother you for definitions is there a website that explains the basics - a primer ?

Thanks.

IDI- the fuel injector injects the fuel into a small precombustion chamber. Also on this 7.3's case they have in injection pump with idividual fuel line going to each injector.

DI- direct injection. Injector fuels straight into the cylinder, IN the case of the PSD the injector uses high pressure engine oil to increase hydraulically the fuel pressure for injection, no injection pump.

good site for info/definitions
