I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD. The car has been making many squeaking noises recently, both in the front, and in the back. I just had all four shocks replaced today, and the problem still exists. I'm almost certain that the control arm bushings are the culprit, and I've purchased some white lithium to spray in there (maybe I'm spraying it wrong?!), but nothing seems to work. The back no longer squeaks, but the front driver side is absolutely horrible. I just replaced the sway bar, all four shocks, and I can't ride down the street without being stared at by every neighbor in the block, LOL! Can I silence the bushings? Or is that probably not the problem? Any help would be appreciated.
Many moons ago i drove a 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak as my daily driver. It had those old arm type hydraulic shocks, which were pretty worn our and squeeked just like you describe. The temporary cure passed on to me was an oil can (trigger squirt type) filled with 1/2 brake fluid, 1/2 penetrating oil. Just spray each point of movement well. You might want to start in one point at a time. so you could isolate the problem. I'd guess the control arm bushings (this stuff will creep in there like the lithium cannot) or the ball joints (only way I know to do those is to either heat with a propane torch (softens the factory lube), or insert a grease gun "needle" fitting right through the rubber boot. Whichever way you choose, you'll have to drive it around some corners and up and down some speed bumps to work the lube in. All cheap and fast fixes, but all temporary, more valuable as a diagnostic, not a cure.
Did you lube the sway bar bushings and connections? Had and fixed my squeeking 40K miles ago and problem hasn't re-occurred. If your unit has coil springs, lube under the spring mounts. Good luck!
wd-40 the heck out of it, lol. worked for me until got around to replacing parts.
make sure the ball joints aren't at the point of failing though.. could be a nasty outcome if one broke while you're running down th road.
