My plan for this summer is to rebuild my transmission, I have an E40D, rebuild kit, shift kit a new torque convertor and pan. The reason I am planning on doing that it because I plan on building up my truck in stages, starting with the weakest link the transmission, next year will be exhaust and suspension, and the year after that for my senior project I am going to rebuild my engine and get get some mild power gains. So my question is what transmission compentents would you guys reccommend, I just want a good daily driver that I don't have to worry about and to get better fuel economy. Sorry for the long post. Thanks
Are you trained in rebuilding trannies? What do you have for a shop? A tech at the tranny place I have been using for years now (only one rebuild through them, everything else was other issues) once told me that he had rebuilt a tranny at home for himself, and he said it was a major PITA due to his lack of all the specialized tools the shop had. If I remember right, it was a common tranny, too, like whatever auto GM put in their cookie-cutter midsize cars in the late '80s and early '90s.
If you get all the parts, you might be able to find a small independent shop that would do it for a few hundred dollars. That's a lot cheaper than the doctors bills after you strain yourself throwing it across the garage.
My dad is a Ford Mechanic, so he knows what he's doing, and has all the tools and what not, and we got premission to use the shop at the dealership with hoists and everything so we will be fine.
Where in WA are you? I lived halfway between Arlington and Marysville, went to UW.
Good luck with your project.
I don't know why they gave it to me, one day it was just there. I live a mile a way from the Canadian Border so up North about 75 miles of you. I was thinking about going with the TCI Master Racing Overhaul Kit, Ford Racing Shift Kit, TCI Torque Convertor and a B&M Trans Pan.
