BFG's POS ??????

I've exclusively ran BFG T/A's on all my trucks for the past two decades and have recently been told by my local ford dealer that they are crap tires and they are partial blame for some of my front end problems. I've alway's considered BFG's to be good, but after talking to some folks and reading some reviews maybe I've been mistaken all these years. I hate asking these Ford vs Chey questions, but who makes a great some what aggressive all around tire? I have an '05 SD crew diesel with 6" lift and 315's. I own an outfitting business so I use the truck for towing travel trailers in addition to traveling hundreds of dirt road miles. I'm not too interested in any type of soft mud tire. Any thoughts?

Personally that sounds like a load of garbage, I also have run BFG A/T ko on the last 4 trucks I've owned 1995 GMC Sonoma Highrider 156,000 miles(stock tire), 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 186,000(the stock Bridgstones were junk), 2006 Hummer H3 53,000(stock tires were slashed BFG's got me into and out of alot of places) and now 2008 F150 screw 4x4 6,800 (got rid of the stock tires at purchase) Never had any trouble on any vehicle great tread life about 80,000 miles per set and on/off road manners, besides if BFG is junk why is the BFG Long Trail stock tires on FX4 and Lariat 4x4's in Texas. Of course the Long Trail is only a glorified Highway tire imo but its still a BFG and the A/T is supposed to be one of their premium off road tires. Bottom line for what its worth I don't think the tires are the problem.

Good Luck, Steven

Don't know who you talked to at the STEALERSHIP but they are full of s**t!!!! Ask them about the wonderful Goodyears they were putting on the rolling Explorers. I have used nothing but BFGs on my trucks and they are by far the best, longest lasting tires on the road!! They will not do anything to hurt your front end.

I agree, I have been using BFG's for decades and Still think they are the best truck tires out there. Whoever said that was just trying to sell what they had on the shelf, I suppose. FWIW, it was Firestone tires on the Exploders, not Goodyear.

My 07 Explorer still has the factory installed Goodyears on them, but BFGs are going to be next in line.

All my trucks will start getting BFGs in the future, even if they cost more.

The only thing I do not like about the ATs are that there is not enough siping action in times with heavy rain - wide ATs tend to hydroplane in deep ponding water on the freeway.

BFG tires are well worth the money spent.

I know that I have the T/A on my truck and I hate the tires. I was confused because the BFGs get good reviews here and on other sites. I was looking into the Toyos and went to a dealer that sells Toyo and BFG. He clued me into the fact that the Rugged Trail T/A that was on my truck is a crappy tire, but their All Terrain T/A is a great and entirely different tire. This then made much more sense to me. That being said I will be going with the Toyo when the time comes. Just need to decide between the AT and MT.

Hope this helps some.

From what I've heard, you will get longer mileage outta BFG's than you will with TOYO
only cuz the rubber on toyo are softer and wear faster, I personnally dont think that the BFG's are the best but for the price of the 315 75 16 (equiv 35's) Ill stick with the BFG's.

bfg is a MUCH better tire than a toyo. the chance of a toyo wearing out, before it separates is slim....

Hey I am not looking to get off topic and start a Toyo vs BFG post, but I am not as concerned about treadlife as actual bite of the tire. I just wanted the OP to know that in my case I discovered that the Rugged Trail is considered to be a poor tire even by the BFG salesman. This was by a truck tire center and the guy actually seemed to know what he was talking about.

I appreciate your input, but I do not want this to turn into another tire brand war lol.

Understood. I happen to feel that the all terrains have good bite, snow, rain, mud or dry weather. They've never failed me. Of course, I would never even consider the rugged trail tires as I don't do any offroading. As far as wear is concerned I have 90,000 miles on my BFGs and looking forward to another 30 to 40,000 miles before I get new ones!

agreed, the rugged trail isnt a very good tire...as far as off pavement traction goes. should be a great street tire tho.

was just saying, ive seen MANY more failed toyos, than i have BFG's

hurt your front end???? if the tires are made of rubber they arn't going to hurt your front end. I personally have no problems with bfgs although I think the grabber at2 is just as good of tire for less money

BFG has built their business on truck tires. I'm surprised, most Ford mechanics are quick to recommend them because they are OE. You mention front end problems. Let me guess, your technician could not find the real reason for your problem, right? Let's blame the tires......

BFG makes great tires. Some better than others for your needs, but overall great.
