shold the outside ring of the balancer be flush with the hub or offset. Mine sit about 1/4" behind the hub. Anyone got apicof there 351M balancer I can compare to.
Im not sure about being a 1/4" but yes it is offset a little. You should have a rubber ring splitting the balancer, make sure that that is nor cracked anf rotted, but it should be OK. I dont have a pic on hand but I will take ont this evening and get it to you.
79351M - when you try to find a balancer, make sure you get one for YOUR application, ie. 351M from a pickup (not a 351W or M from a car) , auto transmission or manual transmission, etc. There are differences in balancers I found out when I was looking for one for my 78 351M powered crew. If you look in the parts books, there are different part numbers for different applications. Make sure you get the right one. There are casting numbers on the balancers that will tell you which one you have. Let me know if you need any help.
I had the one fail the same way on my SHO. Before I knew what had happened, it wore the front right off the timing cover (which was only plastic). Luckily, I managed to get a used one, along with the cover on an online auction site which saved me some bucks. Didn't feel like throwing too much coin at the car since it's got 270k on it.
