Is anybody here running propane on their psd's? if so do you like it? is there anyway of doing this yourself without buying the kit? also is it like nitrous where if there is not enough fuel it will get to hot? i know alot of questions not enough time just been sitting here thinking about it the only down side would be no smoke. any info would be appreciated.
MadVan runs PP in his van. PP can be a bad thing. If you run it in small amount to increase efficency its safe. but if you dump it in for HP you can destroy your engine. Since the diesel is a compression ignition engine and PP comes in with the intake air there is no control of when it ignites. it could ignite on the compression stroke before the fuel is injected and bend or break the connecting rod.
As far as it being like NO2. no its completely different. NO2 is actually much safer on a diesel than it is in a gasser or pp. with NO2 on a diesel if you get too much giggle gas the engine just falls on its face cause the fire got put out.
So its actually much safer to run a shot of nitrous than it is to run propane?
I think NO2 on a diesel is run in a continuous flow, or a small adjusted flow to GENTLY increase the HP... I dont think we're talking Fast and the furious here...
Although you might make a few dodges furious!
Well in a magazine article there were some trucks running a 400 shot of nos and the drivers were saying that you could only give it in the upper rpm ranges, i'm guessing that this is because they are running a 2 or 3 stage system so that would be a 200-130 shot at a time. That would be quite the kick in the seat.
PP is run more continuous (bigger tank) used based on boost pressure. NO2 is not like that. its still like fast and the furious. Use it when you need it. It is also usually boost controlled. NO2 is also expensive to refill from what I understand (relative to how long a bottle will last)
if your looking for a more effient engine a little PP will do it. if you looking for HP gains you need more fuel and if you don't have a turbo to meet the need then add NO2.
so propane is basically just for mileage and small horsepower gains that in turns increases the mileage. but if you are wanting power for maybe a race against a dumb dodge or on a sled next to that cummins you want NO2. sound like i got it?? also i have read on here that our motor can support 500 hp with supporting injectors oil and turbo correct? what if you built that same motor and then put NO2 would you break a rod, twist it up into a metal pretzel, or would it support it? thank you guys your always a big help
I finally took mine off (powershot2000) because now with my new TW chip I don't feel I need it. I loved it for about three years though. Pulling my 5er it would stop a lot of that maddening downshifting on the little hills. I keep it on low because I didn't want to get carried away and wreak something.
