Despite an hour and a half rain delay the Top Fuel nationals at the Route 66 raceway in Joliet were amazing. I'm bright red and I can't hear at all! The most amazing display of power I have ever seen. . . its just so cool.
Tim
Glad you had a great time dispite the hearing lose and burns, i got a half mile race track up the road from me and haven't gotten there yet. This reminds me to get on the ball.
I'm jealous Tim. Going to an NHRA event is on my list of things I want to do sometime. I've heard from those that have been that the funny cars and top fuel cars can literally take your breath away when they run...that's awesome. I'm not that far from either Gateway or Topeka, but it's never worked out for me to make it to one. Someday I'll make it.

I've been to lots of NHRA and IHRA National events and the Top Fuel cars (especially at NHRA events) cause a sort of concussion kinda like an earthquake. Really quite unbelieveable. I can remember when the 200 mph barrier was first reached and now of course the 300. It is one expensive hobby though. Whether as a spectator or competitor.

Well Jeremy Sept .is a little ways off and we are going with a group of guy's that have been going for a long time why don't you come on down and go with us? Memphis is only 150 miles from my house and we are going on Sunday ,the tickets I got were $50.00 apiece and our seats are right around the 60' mark. Send me a PM if your interested.
I don't care if you aren't into cars or power at all. . . anyone can appreciate the awesome power these machines put down. It tickles your feel fromthe ground shaking. . . it rattled my beer off the stand. I pushes your ear drums in. . .you really can't see straight. It pounds, and I mean pounds your chest. its just the most amazing display of power on earth. Nothing that I can think of compares to it. It so much different that any other engine sound I've ever heard. It sounds straight up scary. its so deep and thundering and its wierd how it really doesn't change pitch. It goes from nearly silent idle(in comparison) to just deathly loud. If you can't tell. . . it really did something for me. . . it literally brings a tear to my eye! Go see it!!

I would try, but I'm alreay committed to going to the Moto GP race in Indy during the month of September - have been since last November. With fuel prices the way they are, I don't think I could afford two road trips in one month...especially since I'll still be recovering from getting the truck running. You never know what will happen though and I'll keep it in mind for sure.
I hear ya Tim. There's nothing else like it in the world. I'm going to Brainerd August 8-10 for the National event. It's been 9 or 10 years since I've been there, it's time to go again.
