Thoughts on this tranny problem

Pulling a seal coating rig on a trailer (4000#) loaded in 100 deg heat yesterday . Tranny temps got to 200-225. Then developed a small drip. Went easy as we could going home. Checked fluid level this am 3 quarts low. Filled it up and took truck for a ride, got temps into normal 165 range and they wouldn't go any higher and could not find a leak anywhere at all. The truck never shifted hard or slipped yesterday or today. Now this truck has 235,000 and still on the original tranny, but just started pulling the seal caoter so I know that it will not be too long before she needs to be rebuilt, but I'm trying to make it last as long as I can. What I'm thinking about is doing a fluid change and flush and adding a cooler for now to see what I can get out of her ,any other things to look for or suggestions?

Will be monitoring this too. Had a like situation in Florida round the first of the year. Had the torque converter changed out, found the OD clutch retainer loose and put in a shift kit. The place also took out the bypass so that all fluid has to go to the tiny oil cooler. Truck shifts nice (1st and 2nd) need to do the TC lockup switch soon. Had high temps in Tucson when I arrived doing slow town traffic. Will be looking for an additional cooler soon too.

Someone just posted almost the same problem a couple of weeks ago. It turned out to be a seal that overheated and allowed the fluid to leak out. After it cooled it was ok. If my memory serves me correctly he was backing up a trailer when it happened.

Well the truck was running at 200 + today with no load and shifting a little funny so as much as I didn't want to it's at the tranny shop for a rebuild as I speak. I guess I shouldn'd be complaining with 230,000 on the original trans.

I feel for you man. Mine only had 80,000 and only 10,000 of those were mine. Have them put another cooler on while they have it. I wanted one but was talked out of it at the time. Now I am looking for one. I checked into the Gear Vendors OverUnder drive system and if I start pulling a lot might invest in that too. Should have looked around for a manual tranny but thought I got a good deal on the truck. Now I will never be able to sell it.
