390 head torque and sequence

390 head torque and sequence

what is the proper head torque and tightening sequence for the 390?

From "big block ford engines" by steve christ ( a great FE book) page 133:

9 5 1 3 7 intake side
10 6 2 4 8 exhaust side

A little oil on threads, and where bolt head presses on cyl head. I torque in 10 ft lb steps to 90 ft lb.

how are those bolts counted? clockwise counterclockwise er sumthin?

The #! and #2 were supposed to be in line, one above the other, representing the middle two bolts on the head. The rest are paired the same. Sorry.
