Isky 270hl??

ISKY Racing Cams - Do It Right. Race with the Legend. Camshafts, Connecting Rods, Valve Springs, Lifters

anybody have experience with this cam or cam grinder? i think that the rpm range is a little out of wack, being that most 270d cams are around 1300-5800rpm, it says its a good all around cam, and isky has been around forever.

The rpm does sound too high. I have had so-so results with single pattern cams in my 390. Either great low end, but no high end, or the opposite.
The dual pattern cams seem to work better, like the exhaust flow needs help even though I have headers.
I used a comp XE256H for awhile. worked pretty good all around, pulled best mid-upper rpm even though spec said great low end. I had to install expensive vavle springs per comps suggestion, so cost wasn't just cam and lifters. But the exhuast ports and primary pipes are black with soot (unburned fuel at $4 / gallon). Research said it was too much valve overlap or too late exhaust closing. So I'm switching to a dual duration but shorter than comps 12 degrees.
I ended up extending the 3 inch dia header collector length to about 24 inches, so the exhaust could flow easier thru the header, also added dynomax high cfm flow mufflers. Made a big difference, so now maybe a single pattern cam would work, but I'm all switched over to dual pattern set up.

ive already got inner outer springs, though i dont know there strength

Not that I know much about the subject, but for the FE, using a single pattern cam, putting in CJ-sized exhaust valves helped a lot in my case.

I used a 292/292adv, 230/230@.050", .554/.554" lift cam with the larger exhaust valves and had no problem hitting 6000RPM with a decent amount of torque left, while keeping a decent amount of low-end.
