I just unstalled a complete 6 channel digital suround system in my boat made by Sherwood. It came with a 6 channel amp, the AM/FM and CD player head unit, and the digital theater system decoder. It sounds great, except for one problem. On a song with lots of bass, like some of Kid Rocks stuff, the thump makes the CD skip. At first I thought the amp was taking power from the head unit, so I replaced the hot and ground with 6 gauge wire. It sounds clearer now, but still skips. If I tap on the panel lightly where the head unit is installed, it also skips. What gives? Are Sherwoods junk or something? It's a XCM-7370. I have a Pioneer 12 disc changer connected to it, and it only skips when I hit the biggest waves. Does anybody know of anything I can do to keep this thing from skipping?
I Agree, I know nothing about sherwood, but I would look into some of the more prominent Names on the market, and get an idea of technology they use to prevent the skipping. Maybe there is a quick fix out there.
If your sherwood player has an auxiliary input I would just use a Sony CD player (discman, mp3 player, etc) with G-protection and hook that up... Those things almost never skip. That would be the cheapest fix I can think of. I used to run one of those with a tape adapter in my dad's ol' diesel and we'd be out in the bumpiest roads and the tunes keep on playin skip free. Good luck with whatever you do
