I have a problem that has been bugging me. I own a 01 Ford F350 DRW with a 7.3 PSD. The problem is, when its really warm outside the A/C will initially work ok, blows cold air for a little while then starts blowing warm air. I give the truck gas (high RPM), and i can hear a clunk, which i assume is the compressor kicking back in, then more cold air for a couple of minutes or so, then it starts blowing warm air again. Every time it starts blowing warm air i give it gas (high RPM) I can hear the clutch kick in and more cold air. I assume the clutch is going bad. Is there anything else it could be? Thanks for your help in advance!
BTW, the truck has 122,000 miles on it and has never had the A/C clutch or compressor replaced/repaired. What should the air gap be and how do i check it?
Measure air gap between A/C clutch and A/C clutch
pulley mating surfaces at three equally spaced locations with a feeler gauge. Record the measurements.
If each of the three measurements taken is not within 0.35-0.85 mm (0.014-0.033 inch) , remove the A/C clutch.
Remove and measure the A/C clutch hub spacer. Select the appropriate thickness A/C clutch hub spacer to place the air gap within specified limits.
Install A/C clutch hub spacer and A/C clutch. Recheck air gap measurement.
check the gap like they said above.......also, I had a problem with the wiring in the plug. It had worn out and didni't have a good connection. Fixed the wiring, and works like a champ
