Hi guys I was wondering if anybody could tell me where I could find some replacement chrome side molding for my 97 Expy? My molding has permanent water spots and needs to be replaced. I have included a pic below to give you a better idea of what I need. Thanks.
yes, it's a problem with the xlt door trim. some will tell you to simply take it off. you could do that fairly easily on a warm day with a hairdryer and patience. its like de-badging a car....no holes in back either.
others will say to paint the middle chrome pieces. mask well, prepare the pieces well and rattle-can away. the results can look quite nice.
Yeah I tried the stealership but they said the chrome strip itself couldnt be replaced and that I would have to replace the whole molding assembly. They wanted $59.95 per door molding, plus they want to charge to paint them and install them. Were talkin over $400 just to replace some simple door moldings!! Rip off!!
junk yards maybe- but remember, in taking these things off (both your present truck as well as off a potential wreck), you are introducing a "curve" into the rub strip, basically curling it off as you go. no way will it go back on right after such "harsh" treatment.....
just a thought.....and bearing in mind that i have not tried this myself!
again,i'd be inclined to simply paint the chrome centers white and call it good.
Yeah I think I may just paint the chrome white to go along with the rest of the truck. Every junkyard I went to didnt have a white Expy nor did any of the Expy's have any chrome molding in good shape. Thanks
Hey guys I wanted to let everybody know that Pep Boys sells some 3M 1 3/8 inch chrome molding for $15.99 for a 8ft roll. Its slightly wider than the factory chrome strip, but you can easily trim it to fit. Comes with 3M backing so all you have to do is peel and stick it in place. Looks great and is a very cheap and easy way to make your Expy look beautiful again!!

Don't blame the dealer, blame Ford Motor Company.
They replaced the original oxford white mouldings with the type that's paint to match. And btw, as original...the chrome strip only comes with the mouldings.
This is something Ford has done since the 1970's...offer different colored mouldings originally, then replace them all several years later with one that's paint to match.
I did a search through the Ford dealer parts locater, and found three of the four white painted mouldings at several dealerships.
Here are the Ford part numbers, and who has them:
F75Z7820878AAH .. R/Front Door Moulding-White / Boyer Ford in Mpls Mn has 1 / Hillside Ford in Hillside NJ has 1 / Bob Allen Ford in Overland Park KS has 1 / Kinsel L/M in Beaumont TX has 1.
F75Z7820879AAH .. L/Front Door Moulding-White / No dealer shows this one.
F75Z7825556AAH .. R/Rear Door Moulding-White / Hillside Ford in Hillside NJ has 1.
F75Z7825557AAH .. L/Rear Door Moulding White / Jim Bilton Ford in St. George SC has 1 / Steven Ford-Mercury of Augusta KS has 1.
SUGGESTION: You can buy the paint to match mouldings from FTE sponsor ftepartsguy.com and paint them yourself.
Each moulding has an MSRP of $59.95. Buying them from ftepartsguy, will save you over $15.00 on each moulding.
The mouldings attach with double sided tape which comes with the mouldings, so installing them is a piece of cake.

Even at $59.95 a piece thats still over $240 to replace all four and thats not even including the factory matched paint. It just seems rather expensive for some simple chrome molding.

You are NOT paying $59.95, if you buy the paint to match mouldings from an FTE sponsor.
You are paying roughly 25% off MSRP.
Contact ftepartsguy.com for his price: Ed Olson @ Parr Bord in Bremerton WA
Normally I type the discount price, but the new part numbers don't come up on Ed's site.
The factory colors are available in spray cans from automotive paint supply stores, and autoparts stores that sell Dupli-Color paints.
To get the correct color (Oxford White), you'll find the PAINT code on the Certification Label.
btw: Ford has sold the complete mouldings with painted or anodized mouldings like this since the 1960's.
