2003 Expedition slow to start

I have a 03 Expy with the 4.6 engine. When I go to start the truck, it will turn over for several seconds before it will start. I have had the problem for a couple of years. Ford said I needed a fuel pump, independent mechanic said it wasn't that bad at all, and he wouldn't touch it until it got worse. I have noticed since it has gotten hot outside that it seems to be worse. Now sometimes it seems like it's never gonna start. Any suggestions on what this might be?

sounds like it's gotten worse, so check the fuel pump and fuel filter.

When you go to start it, first turn the key to the "ON" position for a few seconds and then turn the key to the "OFF" position. DO this a couple of times and then try to start it. If it fires right up, your fuel pump check valve is leaking (or you may have a leak in one of the fuel lines.)
