I have a '79 F-250. The previous owner had a Headunit installed, 2 speakers in the doors, plus an amp and 2-8" in a box.
The amp and subs were never hooked up. I bought a new cd player(old one wouldn't change volume). I Have put in 3 CD players before. I went to install the new one and the factory wiring harnesses are gone. I have never done and amp and sub installation, so if anyone could tell me the best way to hook it all it would be great. I have no existing wiring, everything is from scratch.
Aiwa CDC Z127 head unit
2-8" Rampage subs(in sealed box)
100 watt 2 channel AMP
Also, where is the best place to hardwire a CB in so it runs in ACC position?
ok, this is what wires u need:
red=constant battery
yellow=ignition
black=chassis ground
orange=illumination
dark blue=power antenna
blue w/ a stripe=amp remote
for the amp u will need:
power wires with an inline fuse
ground
RCA cables
lenght of wire
**MAKE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL TO THE BATTERY**
1st run ur power wire (make sure the fuse is at least 6" to no more than 18" from the battery) then find a good place for the ground wire (usually on the floor, drill a 3/4" hole and strip the paint away and use a washer on top and bottom and a lock nut and nut on bottom for this) now connect the amp remote (blue w/ stripe) from the headunit to the lenght of wire and connect it to the amp remote lead on the amp. and run the RCA cables frum the RCA out on the HU to the RCA in on the amp.
tap to the battery for the constant wire, might as well put an inline fuse in there to so u dont damage the HU for any reason, better safe than sorry. igintion im not really sure of....i would like to know where to tap into for this also...
I solved the ignition problem by putting a washer connecter on the end and sliding it between the fuse and connection on the radio fuse. Aitn't pretty but works.
