Everything Air Ride

and just because one person did it doesnt mean that it is a good idea...there are lots of those pics in these forums...and with air bags you only get 2 or 3 inch of travel as with coil overs you can get 2 or 3 FEET! i see no point to air bags if you plan on off roading, now if you want a mall crawler with 42s then sure put some air bags on there, but i woudlnt look for help from to many people here in the 4X4 section...

I’m pretty sure that Range Rover and that VeDub the Touareg have airbags from the factory that adjust the suspension, but that’s just Range Rover.
The airbags on my car have 7” of travel up front and 10” in the rear, but it really depends on your setup to how much travel you can have. Like a cantilever, example putting the airbags on the trailing arms, would yield more lift than over the axle.
Some benefits I can see would be:
- You could lower the height for driving the truck around town with better handling do to the lowered center of gravity. The truck would be easier to get in and out of, and for my state will be under the max legal ride height.
- You get the ride of a luxury car as you drive on a cushion of air.
- You could force articulation with the airbags and transfer weight to the right tire at a flick of a switch.
- It makes maintenance a little easier too, I like to raise my car all the way up, slide the jack stands under, then let the air out, and presto, the axle(s) are hanging there unsprung.

Ok, first off...... Stating that adding air bags to an off road truck is going to make it ride like a luxury vehicle is just retarded. There is way too much unsprung weight, and the way a truck is designed just won't ever ride like a lincoln. It may soften the ride a little bit, but thats about it. I've ridden in air bag equiped trucks with low spring rate leafs, and it's not as nice as you would think.

ride has little to do with what you choose to suspend your axle (leafs, airbags, coils.... or a bit of 4"x2"). But more to do with rates of travel, mass, wheel location, roll centres etc. etc. etc.

Ok, maybe not like a Lincoln.... How about a Windstar with two fat chicks in the back
AirBags are pretty light and very adjustable. Since lifted trucks usually have quite a bit of room under them, you can utilize the larger airbags on the market giving you more travel at a lower pressure.
I was hoping an airbagged SuperDuty would chime in on whether they would airbag there ride if they could do it over again or not.
