Ignition

Hey guys, I don't claim to be a wrench head, therefore I need some help. I'm pretty sure my ignition on my steering column is shot. I have a real hard time getting it to crank. How hard is it to change out? I saw I can get one for 10 bucks with keys. I have an 89 F250. Also, if I try to attempt it myself, my neighbor has shop manuals from his 88 F150. Any problem with using his manuals or is it a major difference?

Any help is appreciated.

I believe 88's and 89's are the same as far as the ignition cylinder. It's pretty simple, all you need is the key and a paperclip. If i remember correctly, turn key to acc position, stick paperclip in hole that's in the column, underneath the cylinder. Push the paperclip in as you turn & pull the cylinder out. That should do it.

Is the lock itself giving you the problem? Or is it just not seeming to not turn far enough to start? If the latter, just readjust the switch itself mounted farther down the column. It is held by two nuts and has oblong holes to allow it to be slid for adjustment. Takes about 15 minutes.
