Hey guys, just wanted to know if a 5.0 gt40 upper intake manifold would bolt on to a 5.8 gt40 lower? And if it does, would that just choke the crap out of the 351?
I'm doing a EFI conversion on a PCM 351w for a boat. I'm going to put a GT40 lower intake on it off of another GT40 marinized engine. I'm on a budget and don't want to cough up the $ for a 5.8 upper for the conversion.
OK.. the GT40 intakes are good for over 300hp if the motor under it can flow that well. There were no 5.0 or 5.8 uppers BTW, there is only a GT40 upper, so in other words, both motors use the same upper with the appropriate lower. You'll want to measure the ports in the lower where it meets the heads and open these up to match the heads.. if necessary and there is sufficient material to work with.
I need an upper for my Mustang as well. I'm using an Explorer upper right now.
Internally the GT40 and Explorer intakes are identical, the only difference is one is built from tubing and the other is an aluminum casting. The GT40 intake is definitely the sexier of the two, though.
