I'm sorry, but I don't want my government telling corporations how to run their business.....socialism is a failed government model.

I guess I didn't express myself clearly. I was leaning more towards tax breaks and such to keep businesses here in the US and not letting them move overseas. The dollar is worth about a nickel and things don't look to improve anytime soon.
If we keep sending all of the jobs to China, nobody here will be able to work, so we will not be able to puchace anything and the whole economy crumbles to nothing.
If we get the jobs back, there will be more money to spend, the dollar gets stronger, thus oil prices will drop and there will be no more lead toys to kill our children!!!!

Ok... about the employee pricing deal... I was looking at an 08 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 the other day. The sticker was 41 grand, the employee price was around 35 grand. Off of that, you could take $2,000 or 0% 60 month - or $1,000 and 3.9 60 month. We also could get another $500 since my wife is an active AF Reserve member.

But, they offered $1500 under book trade in for a 2003 car-based SUV that gets 22mpg, because nobody wants anything with SUV or AWD in it's name, or so the sales manager said.

So, no deal and we'll keep the SUV for now.

Edit - Just saw a commercial on TV that they've bumped the rebates up to $5,000 in this area...

In my area they'er offering employee pricing only, no other rebates as far as I know. There are 100's of trucks on the various lots around here, I expected a more ambitious price cut. I could be sold a new '08 if they offered steeper rebates and the employee deal.

please....didnt all of the auto makers survive the stock market crash in the 20's and 30's? what makes you think they wont survive this little "bump"? as far as the big 3 not making small fuel efficient vehicles, they do, but people don't buy them... focus, edge, 500

In the 20's and 30's there were no other significant auto makers represented in the US. Now, Honda and Toyota, as well as the Korean companies, could increase production to completely replace the Big 3 in terms of sales.

Your example of an 18 mpg Edge that weighs 4100 lbs as a "small" vehicle itself shows how lacking the Big 3 offerings are in terms of small, fuel efficient vehicles....

I think the first thing that kills the average worker is the compensation packages of upper management. They have way too much compensation built into their benefits regardless of real production on their part. With 6 & 7 digit bonuses every year which steal millions from the blue collar worker & the bottom line the little guy doesn't stand a chance. Then when they know they have to produce results what's the first thing they do, lay off the people that are actually making the money for the company, second is closing plants. With out a doubt America is dying a slow, maybe a quick death with our current state of economy, but some problems could be managed better.

If your 150 gets 18 mpg in the city, then you need to share the secret of what your doing to get that good of mileage.

dynomaxx 3" turbo muffler, side exit in front of rear tire. pulled that stupid intake tube adaptor that goes into the fender.

18 mpg at 80 mph.. i used to have a 1.5 hour commute to work, if i did 60 mph, on a calm day, 28 mpg not what the computer says, (computer said like 31) but actual mpg... i dont know what it is with ford but every one i've owned if you don't lug them and cruse at or just under 2000 rpm they get good milage... my 9000# f350 will get 22 mpg empty and 17 towing a trailer it likes about 21-2200 rpm... its all in how you drive....

ever driven with a professional truck driver? they drive by the tach not the speedo....

With employee pricing , here in Eastern Canada, they are advertising a New 08 Supercab 4x4 XLT for $26,700 with the 5 year warranty. I Paid 36,000 for my 06 Supercab XLT XTR 2X4 and got lucky and just sold it for $21,500 , the price of gas and employee dicounts have dropped 10 to 15 grand off the price of a new truck and has killed the used market. Trade in value for my 06 was 15 grand.
