Makes sense, wish I'd have checked the other mounts to see if are all tilted or just that one. If it's "localized" in the drivers floor area I guess that's better but still afraind once that sheet metal is kinked it'll be weaker. As for the roofline, did not notice any bent or twisted spots, but again did not specifically look...which is why I value your tips! I'll be back in there Monday morning to check further.

Thanks, GP.

There's 4-5 body mounts on each side of the frame, check them out.
On the picture I see the body mooved. If it's only one side that mooved (all body mounts on that side will look like the one on the picture) you have no square box anymore and to fix that if it's possible cab must be taken off the frame.
Now, you have too grab somwhere to pull somwhere.Where would you grab
the box to pull in order to square it back to spec's without ripping the sheet metal and go'n out of spec's some other places???,I don't know.
Not a big problem doing it on the frame ,plenty of places to grab and pull(loose all body mounts and there you go).I've seen it done on F-450 and much biger trucks, even 18 wheelers.
That's why IMHO you're better of with "total".
We know the floor is bent ,what about the roof???
Regards,
Zbig

Side impacts often cause floor damage and a "pull" has to be done on the floor and repairs done. The uniside- rockers and pillars are also repairable by a "pull" but sometimes replacement is warranted. My question is how does the shop feel about the repair? I have seen shops that shy away from a repair because, without it being said, they are not sure of their ability to complete. I want the shop to tell me they can put it back right and guarantee their work.

I agree with you 1948f1,
1) side impact (moderate).
2) passenger cars (not a tank).
In this case I see no damage to rockers nor pillars.

From the photos it appears that a majority of the shot was taken on the l.f. wheel, which then got shoved back into the fender and a-pillar and rocker, this should be an easy repair for any good bodyshop.

Update - GOOD NEWS finally

Just heard from (other person's) insurance company today, after finally sending their appraiser back out to see the car after some further tear down, they are agreeing to total it! Happy July 4th weekend to me...

Some history for those who have followed and helped me with advice: We had been in quite a stale-mate for almost 2 weeks, I would not authorize them to move it to another (main) location of the shop, because quite frankly I had already decided no-way, and I was not gonna take it back at the end of repairs, so why keep going. I came right out and told the BS manager this, not trying to be a pain, but simply not gonna accept the X back, which means they would not get their ins money, or very slow process, so he worked harder in getting their appraiser back out I think. Really didn't tear down more on the body, but did pull the carpet up inside, etc. In the end, here are the contributing facts that helped push it over the "repairable" edge.

1) Pretty good kink under the drivers floor, all the way to middle between the seats. Only badly shifted body/frame mount was that first one in photos, under drivers door, others looked OK. However, while going over it more closely they did find (which I looked for and missed) a kink in the roofline, just behind the rear door on the PAX side - wow, this hole body has to be bent in the middle, albeit slightly. I inspected the roofline, but on the drivers side where the hit was, but the roof kink is on other side, glad they saw it.

2) Windshield was pinched/cracked at lower corner, again on passenger side, no impact evidence, so they are thinking that entire opening/shape is compromised, may be hard to fit new w/s. Again, did not notice the cracked w/s with all other damage, but was never cracked before.

3) Suspension and 4x4 issues, very hard to even estimate. In addition to the entire drivers front suspension are being a mangled mess, as seen in the photos the axle had slid back between 3 and 4 inches on the spring. Never considered what that had done to the 4x4 transfer case, shoving that drive shaft straight back at least 3 inches into the gear box. They did not tear it down, and it did not show cracks, but was leaking fluid at the seam. Looked like that entire side of the trans case was 'bent' from when the axle pushed back, good chance would have replace that entire assembly, although would need further tear down to know.

Bottom line, with additional supplement they had gotten upwards of $19k for the final estimate, not counting a transfer case that could be over $3k more with labor easy (per the BS guy), plus several other unknowns still. They finally came around. Of course, the fact that I had an attorneys office find me some state case law to quote on the issue of diminished value, and sent it to them on law firm letterhead may have helped also. Who knows, but I went back today to get my brake controller out and a few other items, hope to have closure by next week. Now I gotta decide what to get, although don't have to be in a big hurry plan on shopping by late Summer. Another X or possibly Expedition EL and just not plan on towing the camper much...hmmm.

Anyway, thanks for all the help with this thread, greatly appreciated!!

Geoff.
