I just got everything from under a running 56 f100. Suspension and running gear from the rebuilt 272, 3spd manual with OD,driveshaft, steering column/gear box, and axles.
Here's a plug for craigslist.com. I removed the (50 F-1) front/rear complete suspension including all mounts by drilling/grinding the rivits off. I was going to deliver to the salvage yard. I decided to list all for $50.00 the day before the salvage run. I received six calls before the end of the day. I sold to the first caller. He was restoring a F-1. I sold to someone who needed the parts and made a new friend in trucks. Also gave him the steering wheel/shaft/box and the pedal assy. Also save me a trip. Tells me there are restorers out there not on FTE, that needs parts. Hope he joins FTE, I tried to enlist him. I had a Great day, chuck
Craiglist is a pretty good place to find parts. I think if eBay goes through with some of there policies they are concidering Craiglist is going to grow in popularity. I have bought parts from Craigslist for less than the same items I have seen on the 'Bay. Of course you have to be patient, the quantity of items on Craigslist is a lot list than on the 'Bay so you're not going to find it as common.
One tip to find something on Craigslist in other parts of the country is to do a Google search. Go to the Advanced Search page and enter the item you're looking for, then go down toward the bottom of the advanced search window type in "Craigslist.com" in the "Search within a site or domain:" widow, click on "Search" and you should get numerous hits with the item you're looking for all over the country.
I'm a Craigslist fan too, but lately it is chock full of scammers. i.e., guy lists a bike that's clearly worth $10k for $3,800. He's mining email addresses. Another has his transaction handled by "MoneyBookers.com" (a legitimate PayPal kind of place in England, but doesn't do anything with merchandise). Craigslist is fairly good about purging these jerks, but only when reported by others.
I know I watch craigslist quite a bit, for me, I'm near a major metro area so there is a bit more to search though, but I've managed to haul home a running 460 to put in my F-3, only paid $150 for it. Don't usually see too much of the older sheetmetal though.. danged rust belt.
havnt heard it run yet be is suppost to run with about 10k on a rebuild. did see that the brakes are new with new springs and drums. steering box was a tad bit loose on the pre load so i got it set just rite steering wheel has NO cracks in it and shifter is nice and tight, not sloppy like mine.
that is a good value!! Is the yblock free and run? Do you have a f100 driveshaft you want to sell? thanks Bill
I have a pretty nice restored truck aready with a 56 t-bird 312 in it, so anything i replace to do the OD add will be extra, but will probably just keep an extra powertrane in the garage for a backup or a rat rod build with some scrap iron. HE HE HE
