got chewed out in an email
ok I am looking for a pony motor for a D6 cat and find a guy selling one for scrap ( the entire D6) so e mail him and ask him about the pony motor, 8:00 PM Sunday, he replies Monday morning, after I have gone to work. around 5:00 he re emails to see if i got his previous e mail, when I get home just before 8:00 PM I reply that I had gotten his email but was busy and hadn't had time to reply and that my customer now wants electric start on the CAT. and asked if he would send me pics as there might be additional parts on the scrap CAT I could use.
here is his reply
"I can go and take pictures. I am sure you have seen D6s before. This one looks just like the others. If you have a specific part that you need a close up let me know. The truth is you won't buy it anyway until you see it in person. I wouldn't. Pictures waste my time and computer. It takes all day to do what you are asking. I live in the sticks and have the slowest dial up available.
I am not trying to be difficult here but really the thing is in good shape. It has a nice canopy, the hood doesn't even have a dent in it. The grousers are even and good. The pins don't have wear that is able to be felt. No broken pads etc. Fact is someone can not even replace the pins for what I am asking for the whole thing. It will scrap for more than I am asking and it has a great brush rake on it.
When I inquire how much a D6 and operator costs, the amount will pay for this thing in a couple days.
Why is it that when I want something, that thing is rare, vintage, gold, valuable, wanted and other adjectives. When I want to sell something it is common, old, junky, unusable and other such. Fact is I don't care. If you want it, come see it and take it. If not that is all right too. Mike
PS I am busy too but have the courtesy to answer right away."
that just cost him the sale of his CAT as I was going to buy the entire cat to get the tracks and drive gears to re sell but after that email I will not buy it from him.
sorry so long
Bart

Write or Wrong
sometimes people have a bad day, and they say or type things they regret later on
I think doing things in email can be difficult for both sides
is it as good a deal as he says? will you make money off the extra parts?
what is a wiring harness connector worth in an emergency?
if you buy the d6 and make a good profit on it...you can always email him back <evil grin>
maybe a phone call can soothe both sides
maybe he has other equipment laying around collecting dust
maybe im talking out my posterior...
How far away is the d6?
How long will it take you to find another d6 with the parts you need?
I don't think the guy was very unreasonable, he could have had a little more tact and left off the last 2 lines...
if he can scrap it for more...why sell for less? Unless he is someone that hates to see something scraped when he knows someone else can use it...thats worth something..
just food for thought...
Mark
PS its too bad the old adage "the customer is always right" no longer seems to apply =(

Sounds like my buddy. You either buy it or he don't care. I have seen him run off guys that have traveled hundreds of miles to buy something. Your being too sensitive Bart. He isn't in to customer service. If you need it or think you do & the price is right BUY IT. Bart these kind of guys are as a rule the most honest.
